The Research Conference in Theology and Religion
Arken, Fabriksgatan 2, Åbo/Turku
The Research Conference in Theology and Religion invites and gathers researchers of the field to the unique joint national conference on 22nd to 24th of May, 2024, in Turku! The conference is organized for the third time and the theme is ”Traditions and transitions. Milestones and continuities.” It is organized together by Finnish learned associations in the field of theology and study of religions in co-operation with the Polin Institute.
From time to time there are clear milestones in the development of theology, the Church and religions, single events and years that remain in the collective memory. One such contemporary landmark is the Council of Nicaea, which convened in 325 and whose 1700th anniversary will be celebrated in 2025. In this conference, we are already preparing for these celebrations. But milestones are usually preceded by long arcs of development, and development continues even after the milestone. In our own time, too, many kinds of change are taking place. The theme of the conference, Traditions and Changes. Milestones and Continuities, provides an opportunity to address current issues in theology and religious studies in a broad and varied way. Welcome to Turku!
